North Sulawesi Governor Appreciated the Seminar and Exhibition of Research Results for the Community

BKPM (Manado, 24/10/12)_Forest is one of natural resources that has many tangible benefits for human survival, both economic growth and social culture, but the most important is that forests provide ecological benefits where its role is vital to the preservation of the environment. "Therefore, I highly appreciate this Seminar and Exhibition activities and I invite all of us to think intelligently and formulate strategic steps to develop forest governance transparency, accountability and equity," said the Governor of North Sulawesi, Dr. SH Sarundajang when opening the Seminar and Exhibition of Research Results held in the Multipurpose Hall of Manado Forestry Research Institute (FRI), Tuesday (23/10).

In that occasion, the Head of Forestry Research and Development Agency, Dr. Ir. R Iman Santoso, M.Sc expected that the results of the research can be useful and utilized by the community. "I hope the presence of Manado Forestry Research Institute can continue to contribute significantly to the development of the region and the community," he said.

The speakers on the first day of the seminar include Prof.Dr.Ir. Moch. Naiem, M.Agr.Sc (UGM), Prof. Dr. Ir. San Afri Awang (Ministry of Forestry Advisor for Community Empowerment Sector), Dr. Ir Irdika Mansur, M.For.Sc (Seameo Biotrop), Dr.Ir. Bambang Trihartono, MF (Kapusprohut), Hasan (Director of PT. Serayu Makmur Kayuindo), Arif Irawan S, Si (Manado FRI Researcher), Ir. Joppi Lengkong (Head of Forestry Service of North Minahasa District), Dr. Ir Didik Suharjito, MS (IPB) and Yopi Hudyanto (Birds of Indonesia). Meanwhile, on the second day is the presentaion of the research results from researchers in FRI Manado,  FRI Manokwari, FRI Makassar and Palma Plant Research Institute (BALITKA) of Manado.

The Seminar and Exhibition that was held as a result of a  cooperation between FRI Manado and FRI Manokwari, Ditjen BUK, BPDAS of Tondano, North Sulawesi Provincial Government, the International Tropical Timber Organization (ITTO), Seameo Biotrop, Birds of Indonesia and Manado Post consist of 16 exhibitions stand which showcased the results research that were admired by hundreds of visitors and participants of the seminar.

FRI Manado itself showcased the publication of research results including FRI Manado published books, seeds and wood samples, as well as some documentation of partnerships program with the community. Landslide ground detector was also exhibited by the FRI Makassar, while the FRI Manokwari showcased anthill and timber which are processed into drugs and food products. In addition to the institutions under Forestry Research and Development Agency, the exhibition was also attended by several companies and NGOs.

The Head of FRI Manado, Dr.Ir. Mahfudz, MP on this occasion also signed a memorandum of understanding with Seameo Biotrop and North Sulawesi BKSDA to conduct conservation of flora and fauna of the tropical forests of Indonesia and the development of local tree species for fast growing plantation (community) in the region of FRI Manado. According to Dr.Ir. Mahfudz, MP the seminar and the exhibition of research results were intended to promote the results of research and build partnerships and synergies with its users. It is also intended to enhance the role of forestry extension to support the successful development of the forestry sector. (MF) ***
